Installation of Waterproof Backer Board in Bathrooms

The use of waterproof backer boards in bathrooms has long been popular in Europe and North America due to their convenient, fast, and simple installation. In China, an increasing number of bathroom renovations are also adopting waterproof backer boards. Not only does this material simplify construction, but it also provides thermal insulation, sound absorption, and noise reduction, making it a highly recommended choice for bathroom renovations.  

Installation Steps for Waterproof Backer Boards in Bathrooms

1. Measurement & Cutting  

Measure the required dimensions of the bathroom walls and cut the waterproof backer boards on-site.  

The boards are highly workable and can be easily cut to any required size.  

2. Applying Tile Adhesive  

Evenly spread tile adhesive on one side of the cut board.  

Install the board using the thin-bed method.  

Since waterproof backer boards consist of an XPS extruded polystyrene core with waterproof polymer layers on both sides, they provide inherent waterproofing and moisture resistance.  

No additional waterproofing layer is needed, saving both time and labor compared to traditional methods.  

3.Installation & Fixation  

Press the adhesive-coated board firmly onto the bathroom wall.  

For joints between boards, lay fiberglass mesh over the seams and secure it with adhesive.  

Apply a waterproof SBR (styrene-butadiene rubber) sealant to reinforce waterproofing at the seams.  

4. Advantages in Construction  

Using waterproof backer boards simplifies wall leveling and significantly improves surface flatness.
